HMM... TO DASH THE MAKEUP OR TO NOT DASH THE MAKEUP?

Let's face it, makeup has been our go to for at least 7,000 years since the beginning of its time, when the ancient Egyptians created the first prototype cosmetic.

Lash extensions changed the whole makeup game for me. My daily routine consisted of applying eyebrow makeup, gluing on falsies, blotting on foundation + powder and mascara applied to both my top and bottom lashes..... Even though I had falsies on I still wore mascara under it LOL can you believe that?! Oh yeah forgot to mention how many times a day I would use my eyelash curler to re-curl my falsies; which I thought ...CAN'T be healthy for my natural lashes. It was even more of a process when I had to get dolled up for a night out or event, I would need to set aside at least an hour alone to do my makeup. I always spent the most time trying to even out my eyeliner wing, match eye shadow shading on both eyes and trying to glue the falsies on as close to my lash line as possible. So I thought to myself... I need a solution.

I started to get tired of putting on makeup every day so I looked up my options and decided to get myself a pair of lash extensions done. Since then my makeup life has changed drastically. Most days I just wake up, brush my lashes and I'm out the door! I don't find the need for makeup anymore because the lash extensions give my eyes just enough drama & definition for everyday wear. However, I know there's still some of us lash extension wearers that still prefer to wear makeup but its important to take the following factors into consideration.

MAKEUP DON'TS!

1) NO OIL BASED PRODUCTS - What happens when oil comes in contact with your lash extensions? Oil begins to break down the adhesive which causes your extensions to shed much faster. Make sure to check the ingredient label on your cosmetic products, makeup remover and facial care products for oil content. I recommend using Garnier Micellar makeup remover and Q-tips are best for difficult areas.

2) NO MASCARA - Mascara is lash extension's WORST enemy, when applied to lash extensions it hardens on the lashes causing them to bond together. This also causes the lash glue to weaken promoting premature fallout! Not only that, if your lashes are tugged too hard while they're bonded together this will pull out your own natural lashes before they are ready to fall out their selves. If your natural lashes are pulled out before they reach the end of their growth cycle this can cause bald spots on your lash line and is not healthy for your hair follicles. Please note the only time its okay to wear mascara with your lash extensions is if it is applied to your bottom lashes.

3) NO TO WATERPROOF OR CREAMY MAKEUP - Waterproof makeup stays well... almost too well and creamy makeup smudges almost everywhere. These two products are such a hazard to lash extensions: FIRSTLY waterproof makeup requires a tough scrub which is also followed by the tugging factor and SECOND creamy products can get into those tough to reach places ; making it more difficult to remove. During the cleaning process the lashes can be pulled too hard upon scrubbing and because these substances are harder to remove, there's more of a chance you could miss certain areas which could lead to build-up that affects the longevity of the extensions.

For an alternative its recommended to invest in makeup that is easier to remove. The less work required for makeup removal, the less tension it causes on your lash extensions.

In the end everyone is different and the answer to the question is NO you don't need to dash your makeup because of lash extensions, it's okay to wear makeup with the lashes if that is your style! It's just important to follow precautions and be gentle as possible so that you can get the most out of your lash extensions & keep your lashes healthy. I know it could be tempting to put makeup on when its time for a fill or if you feel the lashes aren't bold enough for you but just ask and you will receive love! When you come to your next appointment and feel that you want a more dramatic look, we can discuss your options and help you get the lashes you desire.
